05-12-2019 – Keith Cozort – Godly Motherhood (AM Sermon)

So good to see you this morning and Certainly appreciate you being here. If you are visiting with us, we want you to know that we’re honored by your presence, and we hope that you’ll come back at every opportunity You have. Again, Let me say happy mother’s day to all the mothers That are out there. And we Certainly appreciate you. Let me also say happy birthday,

Linda. No, Donna Donna got the wrong one. For those of you who were not here Wednesday night, and many of you do not have Facebook or, Or maybe didn’t see it. Let me bring you some very sad information, but let me bring you up to date. We have in the bulletin to ask you to remember Don and Sherry Blackwell.

Don Has gospel preacher. He preaches for the South Haven congregation in South Haven, Mississippi. He is also the director of gospel broadcasting network network GBN, which is down in olive branch, Mississippi. And Last Sunday, he started a gospel meeting in Salem, West Virginia, or Salem, Virginia. And on Monday, He and his wife, Sherry Sherry was with him for the gospel meeting,

decided to go on Four Wheeler trip during the afternoon. And unfortunately they ended up having an accident. Don is in far worse condition than his wife. Sherry is for that. We are grateful and yet Sherry is going to be in a back brace for several months. Recuperating Don. We found out severed his spinal cord. Evan informed me. I let him read the description that was On the internet,

informed Me that because of where it is located, there is some good news in that he will be able to, as best as we’re able to tell any way, he’ll be able to move Who’s arms. You’ll be able to breathe without having to have mechanical assistance, but he is from All indications right now. He is going to be in a wheelchair.

The rest of his life. He is one who is in excruciating pain. They tell us he is from all indications going to be able to get into the hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, which is the best hospital for his particular problem that he has. The problem is he’s going to be there at least three months. On top of that, from what we understand is insurance,

because it was a ATV accident rather than an automobile accident, his insurance will not pay, but maybe half of his expenses, they tell us that the initial cost is going to be well over $500,000. And then it will be approximately $60,000, the rest of his life per year in order, just to take care of his medical expenses. I’m telling you that,

first of all, to ask you to continue to pray for Don and Sherry, but it has really been bothering me the last few days, just thinking of the enormity of the expenses that he’s going to have to go through. They are going to have to go through. They still have one. They have three children, two daughters, and a boy,

the boys, the youngest, and I believe he is a junior in high school. They just became grandparents this year for the first time, I can not imagine how he is going to have to deal with the expenses for those of you who don’t know. And I’m just simply going to put this out there because I’m sure most of you don’t know when it comes to medical insurance preachers are on their own.

There is no preacher plan. There is no special group for preachers. Each preacher ends up having to do it on his own, which of course makes the rates higher than normal. Don is going to need a lot of help financially. He’s going to need a lot of help for a long time. The congregation there has set up a, it is like a GoFundMe page,

but it’s not a GoFundMe page in order to help with his expenses. And I know that there are many congregations that are going to be helping because of congregations that know Don and know his stand for the truth. But I’m simply letting you know that if there is anything that you feel that you can do to help, I’ve not talked with the men yet,

our meeting is tonight after worship. I hope that as a congregation, we can help, but on an individual basis, if you are able to help, I would encourage you to do that. I don’t make a plea like that very, very often, but I believe that Don and his wife are well worthy of the help that they’re going to need just in order to survive.

Several years ago, I was in the hospital for emergency surgery and was there for three days and it costs me $24,000. And that was with the doctor, even waiving his expense for the surgery. He said, I’ll take whatever the insurance company gives to me. And I said, but I don’t have any insurance. Cause I didn’t. At the time he said,

I’ll take whatever the insurance gives to me. And so he wrote it off. There are not many doctors like that, but still the expense was $24,000. Plus for a three-day stay in the hospital. He’s already been in the hospital for a week. He’s going to be in for at least three more months in Atlanta, a specialty hospital. And so I want you to know his situation.

I want you to be aware of it if you are able to help. Great. And certainly the greatest part would be remembering Don and Sherry and your prayers, godly motherhood. There are those who scoff and motherhood. We understand that mother’s day is not a religious day, but it is a day that is set aside by tradition to honor mothers. And for that,

we should be thankful. Motherhood is one of the greatest roles that God has given to any individual. It is the task of building a life and it carries awesome responsibilities. Father and mother are those who share in the bringing forth of a child as well as working together. In order to train that child, The mother has a work and exerts an influence that cannot be done as effectively by any other person In the life of her children.

And so I want us to spend just a few moments thinking concerningly God, godly, mother, Good, godly mothers, Godly mothers are those who actually need a pattern in order to know how God would have them to do things. And I want us just simply to look at some examples of mothers in the Bible and some of the things that are stated concerning these examples because they serve as the pattern to help mothers.

They serve as examples of what mothers can do and should do for their children. When you look at Mary, the mother of Jesus, certainly she is a great example. She is an a Z an example of one who is willing to submit herself to God. You look at Matthew chapter one, you look at Luke chapter one, chapter two, and we’re going to notice some verses turn with me.

If you will, to Luke chapter one, Luke gives us more information concerning Mary than what Matthew does in Matthew chapter one, but read with me if you will verses 26 through 56 concerning Mary and what is going to happen to her. She has gone to her cousin Elizabeth House. She has just been informed that Elizabeth is six months pregnant, verse 25. Thus have the Lord dealt with me in these days wherein he looked at Dawn on me to take away my reproach among men that was Elizabeth talking in the sixth month.

The angel Gabriel was sent from God under the city of Galilee, named Nazareth to a Virgin espoused to be a man is espoused to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David and the Virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in under her and said, hail thou that art highly favored. The Lord is with thee blessed art thou among women.

And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying and in her mind, what manner of salutation this should be? And the angel said unto her fear, not Mary for thou has found favor with God and behold thou shall conceive and I womb and bring forth a son and shall call his name. Jesus. He shall be great and shall be called the son of the highest and the Lord,

God shall give unto him the throne of his father, David. And he shall reign over all the house of Jacob or ever. And of his kingdom. There shall be no end then said, Mary, under the age of, well, how shall this be seeing, I know not a man and the angel answered and said unto her, the Holy ghost shall come upon thee.

And the power of the highest shall overshadow thee. Therefore also that Holy thing, which shall be born of the shall be called the son of God and behold thy cousin Elizabeth. She has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren for, with God, nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said,

behold, the handmaid of the Lord, be it unto me, according to thy word, and the angel departed from her Mary Rose in those days and went into the Hill country with haste into a city of Judah and entered into the house of Zachariah Zacharias and saluted Elizabeth. And it came to pass that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy ghost and she spake out with a loud voice and said,

bless it. Our theme among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And hence is this to me that the manner of my Lord should come to us or come to me low. As soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine, ears debate leaped in my womb for joy, bless it. As she, that believed for there shall be a performance of those things,

which were told her from the Lord. And Mary said, my soul does magnify the Lord and my spirit death read. I have three joist in God. My savior for he has regarded the lowest state of his handmade for behold, from henceforth. All generations shall call me blessed for he that is mighty have done to me. Great things. And Holy is his name.

And his mercy is on them. That fear him from generation to generation. He has showed strength with his arm. He has, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their seats and exalted them of low degree. He had filled the hungry with good things and the rich, he has sent empty away.

He F hope and his servant Israel in remembrance of his mercy. And as he spoke to our fathers to Abraham and to his seed forever and Mary abode with her about three months and returned to her own house here, of course is Luke’s record concerning the conception of our Lord by Mary, his mother. You go on to chapter two. And again, Luke is going to continue to tell us concerning what happens with Mary and the baby Jesus.

And in verse 40 of chapter two, the child grew in wax strong in spirit, filled with wisdom. And the grace of God was upon him versus 51 and 52. And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was subject under them. But his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature. And in favor with God,

and man, Mary Was one who was submissive to God in this circumstance. She had already shown herself, demonstrated herself to be one who was obedient under God. And therefore she was the one who was chosen in order to be the mother of the Lord, the mother of the Messiah. And she is commended over and over again. And yet, As a result of this,

she is going to witness her son crucified upon the cruel cross of Calvary. She is going to be there to watch the things that happened to him, To her son, godly motherhood. We are also to think concerning Yunus, the mother of Timothy Paul is going to refer to Timothy’s mother on more than one occasion, but turn with me if you will, to second Timothy chapter three,

verses 14 and 15, because Paul is going to make mention concerning the fact that Timothy’s mother, as well as his grandmother were those who put forth concerted effort in order to teach him concerning the word of God, God, Paul States verses 14 and 15 chapter three second Timothy, but continue thou in the things which thou has learned and has been assured of knowing of whom thou has learned them.

And that from a child Dow has known the Holy scriptures, which are able to make the wise and the salvation through faith is in Christ. Jesus. Paul speaks concerning the fact to Timothy that from a child, from his childhood, he is Known and learned the Holy scriptures, meaning those old Testament scriptures he is known And the scriptures, which are able to make the wise under salvation through faith,

which is in Christ. Jesus Mothers Need to understand how important it is for them to be treated, teaching and training their children in the word of the Lord, Teaching them, Training them to know what God’s word has to say. Hey, Timothy’s mother Commended. By the very point that Paul is making to Timothy about her training. When you back up to chapter one in verses three through five Paul,

as he introduces this second epistle to the young preacher, Timothy says, I thank God whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience that without ceasing, I have remembrance of the, in my prayers night and day greatly desiring to see the being mindful of the tears that I may be filled with joy. When I call to remembrance, the unfeigned faith that is in the which dwelt first in thy grandmother,

Lois, and in my mother Eunice. And I am persuaded that in the also you see it was his mother and his grandmother who taught him the scriptures. His father had absolutely nothing to do with it. His father was a Greek. He didn’t from all indications. He didn’t follow the old Testament. He didn’t follow the Jewish religion. And therefore it was the responsibility of mom and grandma in order to teach him the scriptures,

which they did effectively. Yes, yes. Unit serves as an example of teaching children. The Bible emphasizing the Bible to those who are her offspring. You can think concerning Sarah, the mother of Isaac, When you go back to Genesis chapter 21, there we read concerning the fulfillment of the promise that was made to Sarah concerning the fact that she was going to bear a child in her old age.

And so in chapter 21 verses a one through 12, we read in the Lord, visited Sarah, as he had said, and the Lord did under Sarah, as he had spoken for Sarah conceived and bear Abraham, a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him and Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him,

whom Sarah bear to him, Isaac and Abraham circumcised, his son, Isaac being eight days old as God commanded him. And Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born unto him. And Sarah said, God have made me to laugh. So that all that here will laugh with me. And she said, who would have said unto Abraham,

that Sarah should have given children suck for? I have born him a son in his old age And the child grew and was weaned. And then Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned. And Sarah saw the son of Hagar, the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham mocking wherefore. She sent him to Abraham cast out this bond woman and her son for the son of this bond woman shall not be heir with my son,

even with Isaac. And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son. And God said unto Abraham, let it not be grievous in my sight because of the land. And because of I bond woman in all that Sarah has said under the hearken, under her voice for, in Isaac shall thy seed be called Sarah 90 years of age bears a son,

Isaac, the son of promise. And it is such that after Isaac is born, That We read concerning Ishmael, the son of Hagar and Abraham is one who is mocking Isaac. We don’t Know everything that was involved in that, but it is as a result of that, that Sarah says enough is enough. Remember? Yeah, Male is here because of her encouragement of Abraham.

Since Sarah had not been able to bear a son, conceive a son. And so she has Hagar too Come Abraham’s wife and for him to have a child by Her. But now Ishmael is 14 years old when Isaac is born. Okay. And he is in some way, mocking Isaac and Sarah says he is not going to inherit. He is not going to be one who is going to be heir as my son,

Isaac is. And that was true. God said, that’s not going to be the case. He is not going To be your error. And Therefore tells Abraham you do what Sarah’s has told you to do, suggested that you do in sending them away. Sarah was one who as the mother of Isaac, yeah. Realizes the need for him to be around good influences.

And the indication is that Ishmael is not a good influence and therefore they need to be separated in order to protect the heir of Abraham, that being Isaac. And so she has Abraham to send Hagar and Ishmael away, God will continue to watch over them. God, in fact will tell Abraham that he will make of Ishmael a great nation, but it is such,

he is not going to be the error that was promised to Abraham. Sarah was one who was looking out for her son. You think concerning Rachel, and we’re not going to go through and read everything that I’ve got as far as Rachel is concerned, but she of course is the mother of Joseph and Benjamin. And when you read concerning her, the meeting of Jacob with Rachel,

when he is leaving Esau, his brother, because he saw his threatened to put him to death because of the things that have happened. And so he goes to his mother’s brother’s place, his uncles there. He meets his cousin. He is going to Want to take her to be his wife. He’s going to work seven years in order to have Rachel is his wife,

but his uncle is going to do the old switcheroo. And he ends up marrying Leah, Rachel sister. Instead, He’s Extremely upset when he finds out what has happened, which isn’t until the next month And labor, His uncle will say, if you’ll work for me, seven more years, I’ll give her to you to wipe as well, Which Jacob was willing to do.

Rachel is his favorite wife, But then you go on and you read concerning what takes place as far as Leah begins to bear children. And as a result of that, Rachel Becomes extremely upset because she’s still not able to bear children. And so she gives to Jacob, her handmaiden that may be through her. She can have children, Leah Has stopped bearing at this particular time.

So she decides, well, two can play this game. And so she gives to Jacob, her handmade that maybe she can have more children through her handmaid. And she does. So now there are 10 children. Rachel still has none. Rachel is going to bear. She’s going to bear Joseph and something that we’ve talked about at other times. But when you look at the chronology,

that’s given to us in the book of Genesis, you have to work your way back in order to see it. But the fact of the matter is Jacob is 77 years old. When he meets Rachel, the first time he is already what we consider to be up in age, even in that day in time, before he starts having any children. And yet it is going to be such that Joseph is going to be born.

Sometime later, Benjamin is going to be conceived by Rachel. And as a result of the circumstances of her pregnancy, Rachel is going to die. Giving birth to Benjamin. Rachel is one who was willing to give her own life for her child. How many times are we hearing today of mothers who are willing to discard their child through abortion, punishing the child for what is claimed to be a mistake that the mother has done.

Rachel was one who was willing to give her own life for her son. When you think concerning Mary, the mother of John Mark, we only have one brief glimpse concerning her found an acts chapter 12 and there an in verse 12, it says after Peter has been imprisoned after James, the apostle has been killed. And Harriet is one who is trying to please the Jews.

So he arrests Peter, but Peter is going to be released from prison by the angel verse 12 says. And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John, whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together, praying here is a woman who had the brethren into her house, had the brethren into Her house in order to pray concerning the safety,

the welfare of Peter, not knowing that Peter has been released In prison. Peter is going to come to her house because he knows that the brethren will be there to pray for him. She is As one who is so concerned about another, she is so concerned about one of the apostles of our Lord, the treatment that he might receive to where she and other brethren are going to gather together to pray earnestly and constantly for Peter to where,

when Peter comes to the door, they believe that it must be as spirit when they find out that He was there, but her house As a place where brethren could go together to meet together in order to Great. Finally, you think concerning Hannah, the mother of Samuel, the wife of Elkanah One of his two wives that He had Sarah Or rather Hannah is one who has been wanting to have a child for a long period of time.

And yet it has not Happened. And so she makes a promise to God that if God will give her not a child, a son, if God will give to her a son, then she will dedicate her son to God for the rest of his life. That is exactly what she Talks about there in first Samuel chapter one and two, and what she does When Samuel is born,

she was We’ll tend to him until such time as he is Weaned. Once he is weaned, she will turn him over to God, To where she Will not be able to see him on a daily basis. She will not be able to see all the things that he’s going to go through. And in growing up, As most mothers are able to do with their children,

she will see him, but once a year, but whole how much she wanted to be a mother and how, How much he was willing to sacrifice in order for God to answer her prayer, Godly motherhood, many times, Maybe we don’t think about it as much as we should, except on mother’s day. But fact of the matter is there is so much that goes into being a mother to be in a godly man,

To being a kind of mother that God would have a mother to be. So, as In order to live the right kind of example, before her children, every day of her life, To be willing, to take care of all the needs of their, of the children, no matter how many there are willing to do everything within her ability to raise those children,

to be followers of God, obedience to the gospel in order to live Christian lives, faithfully mothers are to be commended. Godly. Mothers are to be greatly commended. And certainly we need to pray for and help assist encourage in every way that we can. Those Who are striving to be godly mothers, The way the scriptures teach. If you’re one is outside the body of Christ this morning,

the scriptures teach that in order to become a Christian one month Here, the word in order to believe it, John six, verse 45, Then one must be willing to believe or else there is No hope of him being saved. Mark 16 Verse 60 must be willing to repent Change of mind, which brings about a change in action. Change in attitude makes restitution where possible acts chapter two verse 38 Must Be willing to confess one’s faith In Christ that he truly is the son of God.

Matthew chapter 10, verse 32, one who will be baptized in order to receive the forgiveness of their sins, the remission of their sins in order to be saved. Mark chapter 16, verse 16, acts chapter Two, verse 38, acts chapter 22, verse 16. Are you willing to do those things in order to become a Christian? There is no other way.

There is no other plan. There are no shortcuts. It will only be done the way God said it will be done in order to be right with him. If you’re one, who’s already a member of the body of Christ, but you’ve gone back the world, turn your back upon God, turn your back upon the church. Will you come back and repentance,

praying to God for forgiveness to begin again, walking in the way of righteousness, the invitation song has been selected to encourage you. If you need to respond. And the song says, don’t wait too long. Think seriously about those words. As we sing this song, as together, we stand and sing.
